Since establishing diplomatic relations in 1993, Brunei Darussalam and the Lao People's Democratic Republic have maintained close and friendly bilateral relations. Frequent exchanges of visits between leaders reaffirm the long-standing special relationship between the two countries.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Lao People's Democratic Republic to Brunei Darussalam stated the matter at a reception in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Lao People's Democratic Republic. The ceremony took place at a hotel in Gadong, 8th December night.

Representing His Majesty's Government was Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Doctor Dayang Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Md. Salleh, Minister of Education. His Excellency Heuankeo Sangsomsak in his speech also expressed confidence that bilateral cooperation between the Lao People's Democratic Republic and Brunei Darussalam will continue to thrive.
